Cornish Finnish Michigan Pasties
 
Makes 12 Servings
 
6 ¾ c. all purpose flour
1 ½ c. shortening
1 ¾ c. + 2 TBL Ice water
1 ½ tsp. Salt
4 ¼ cup potatoes, small dice
2 shredded carrots
1 ½ onions, small dice
¾ c. rutabaga, small dice  
1 ¼ lb. lean ground beef
1/2 lb. ground pork
4 ½ tsp. salt
1 ½ tsp ground black pepper
¾ c. Beef Stock
1 egg
 
Brown the meat in the butter add the vegetables, and stock. Season for flavor.
 
Whisk together flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut the shortening into the flour, Make a well in the center of the mixture, and quickly add the ice water. Form the dough in a ball and set aside.
 

Roll out the pastry dough into a 3” X 4” rectangles Place about ¼ c. of the filling in the center of each rectangle. Using a little egg wash seal the pasties. Cut a slit into each pasties. Place on a sheet pan lined with Parchment Paper, and brush the top with egg wash. Place in a 425 oven for approximately 45 minutes.
